Dr M.R. Kalan

  • Speciality: Dental Surgeon

Established dentist in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

Dr Manhar Kalan (B.Sc., B.Ch.D., M.Ch.D., P.D.D.) initially completed his B.Sc. degree with majors in Physiology and Microbiology.

After a year of full-time employment in Johannesburg in a commercial laboratory, he moved down to greener pastures and completed his dentistry studies at the University of the Western-Cape, graduating with a B.Ch.D.degree.

Following a brief stint in private practice he went on to specialise in Oral Pathology (training at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University and the University of the Witwatersrand) and graduating with a specialist degree ( M.Ch.D.) from the acclaimed University of the Western Cape’s Dental Faculty.

He has practised as a specialist Oral Pathologist with the Department of Health with a teaching position passing his knowledge on to both undergraduate and post-graduate students at Tygerberg Hospital, a large public hospital in Cape Town.

Dr Kalan subsequently established a successful general dental practice in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town which he developed and managed for over fifteen years, building up a large base of satisfied customers and in turn making a name for himself as a leading family dentist in Cape Town.

He has stayed ahead of current dental practices by completing a two-year post-graduate diploma (P.D.D.) in dentistry.

He presently has a special interest in preventive dentistry and has completed a number of additional courses in preventive dentistry and public health.

Paying special attention to the growing health and wellness needs in the developing country of South Africa, Dr Kalan has pursued philanthropic interests by extending his passion and applying his years of practice experience and leading industry knowledge by founding basic oral hygiene initiatives in partnership with community-based organisations to aid children in the poorer sectors of the community. One landmark project that he has been influential in is one at Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Dr Kalan’s success has come from hard work, keeping up to date with all aspects of dentistry with an emphasis on providing both quality and highly specialised dentistry while at the same time keeping his patient’s expectations and financial considerations in mind.
